Good news that make hearts merry during Christmas.

PRIME Minister John Howard wants to put Christ back into Christmas. That sounds like good news to me. Like bring it on! It's time when a prominent leader has the guts to stand and put a stop to all the politically correctness in the society today.

Dump Xmas. Bring back the true meaning of Christmas.

Some of the quotes from the PM that are note-worthy: "I hope some department stores would have the courage to bring back nativity scenes and not just Christmas trees." And when the Prime Minister of the nation actually says that, people listen. It attracts the media. It's high time when the true meaning of Christmas and Spirit of the season dominate the media.

There's a shift in the spiritual atmosphere. It's not just another season. It's the season of the Promise being fulfilled where God wants to reclaim the land and to take authority wherever your feet takes you.

Jesus Christ. He's the true reason for the season.

i was just wondering the other day why such a secular country like australia celebrates christmas as a public holiday, and how it's almost 'cool' for ppl to sing songs about jesus for this one day of the year. what are the non-christians thinking about all this? i know i would feel a bit weird about all this, especially if i was like hindu or something, and my prime minister (of a secular country) was telling me to celebrate christ...
sorry, just a thought...

well, i think its 'cool' tt the prime minister of a country stands up for what he believes is right and true. and for non-christians, they must hv heard or hv had some contact with christians or christianity in other times of the year besides christmas, so during dec, its a huge opportunity for them to find out what this is all abt. but if the culture of the nation is tt christmas is celebrated 'closed' or mellow, then it closes more doors on ppl knowing God, just because christmas is a huge door for ppl to come to knw God.

can an sg girl share a thought? :) Here in Sg, we hv public hols celebrating the Chinese, Malay and Indian new years and religious holidays (Christmas included).

Christmas has been targeted and x-cificated to become X-mas in a politically correct exercise. But none of the other religious hols r ever "toned down" just to "accomodate" those who r nt part of the religion.

I think society's shift to condemn open celebrations of Christmas is a spiritual battle but even if we minus the spiritual aspect for a minute and look at the matter logically, surely it is baffling (to me any way) tt a religious hol like Christmas' shld had to hv its religious aspect taken out of it ("Christ" is replaced by "X").

Howard's new stand and our convos shouldn't even have to take place. Part of the characteristics of a multi-racial, multi-cultural society is accepting each other's cultural and religious practices.

The first question we need to ask is not whether Christmas should be celebrated "openly". It is why on earth is there an argument about it in the first place? 'cause really, the reasons don't hold water.

well, i reckon why there's an argument abt the lid put on the Christmas celebrations is because there is a very real spirtual reason behind it for sure. and the devil himself knws tt if the true spirit of christmas is revealed openly, he dont stand a chance. so, there's various ways n means to stop it frm being reaching the masses. hence, all tt political correctness crap. if ppl wanna put 'X' into Xmas, then they shld put 'X's into everything! just so tt we dont flippin' offend anybody... but its Christ we're talking abt. which is why He needs to be OUT THERE! u go, Howard

hey, don't get me wrong, i wasn't saying we should put a lid on religious celebrations or that we should be more pc, or even commenting on how people do that, i just thought it was an interesting observation that's all. cos if this really was a multicultural country, don't u think we would have days like deepavali or hanukkah or whatever as public holidays too? it's just fascinating to see that an officially non-christian country has christian celebrations (easter, good friday and christmas) as public holidays...

hi brodie, hope my last comment didn't sound like i was jumping on urs. i was referring more to Sg, where we do have public hols for the hindus, muslims... etc. And every such PH, the PM sends his best wishes to the community and I reckon every one else outside of the community are just happy that they get a public holiday ;)

Hmm, didn't Australia at some stage have Christianity as a national religion? - skye

dont worry abt it, bro. i knw what ur saying. i'm just voicing my opinion abt tt too. i reckon it is interesting to see Australia celebrating Christmasin a more grand fashion compared to other religious PHs. n ppl r more acknowledging when it comes to Christmas too, knwing tt its a public holiday for everyone and everyone just chills out, cause its the end of the yr.

i reckon, we shld celebrate Christmas as it is. knwing tt its a significant date nationwide as well as acknowledging God as the One who deserves all the praise, 'cause without Him, we all wont be here.
